As in all historical periods, among contemporary artists there is a lot of confusion and spontaneity, resulting from short-term, ephemeral projects. Both elements are vital parts of creative process as only in this “cauldron” one experiences life truths and comes up with creative concepts. On the other hand, there are artists whose prospective creations are easy to predict. This can be refered to as the “brickyard painting”. The term also describes a process which cannot be avoided by any artist because one needs food, needs to buy bricks. Therefore, the “brickyard” is also a concept.

It is important for me to show the existentialist situation of myself as an author, creator; my situation here and now, in Lithuania, in the world. (Interestingly, in Lithuanian the “world” denotes a place under the sun.) Over that time I participated in a number of exhibitions and art projects in galleries or public spaces both in my country and abroad. Over the last decade I was involved in different architectural projects in the cities of Vilnius and Klaipėda, and other places of Lithuania. No matter what their commercial or decorative functions were, these works would become part of my vision received through dreams and prompted by a particular architectural whole. I would not say that my relations with clients were always easy but I am very grateful to them. I had to challenge a lot of stereotypes, such as, “Why are you doing this? Nobody′s going to understand anyway.” or “What for?”, not to mention the financial aspect―in a country which mostly needs bread. Yet how can one explain that a free act of creation is the bread and blood of a country? The only means for doing so is creation itself. The most valuable lesson was to make a journey through one′s self, to start appreciating the country you were destined to be born in, to understand that our Himalayas are here and what it means to be an artist. I do not think that on the other side of the globe things are different.
